A New Perception? Not buying it.
Climate change. This fragment is rather limiting. Most likely you think of changes in temperature, maybe a difference in weather, and perhaps the concept of global warming runs through your mind. But wait, aren't global warming and climate change the same thing? I define climate change as the variation in temperature and weather patterns in an area over time. "Climate change" jumped out at me in an article I found in a magazine. In this article the author argues that the "fanatics" who believe in global warming use the term "climate change" rather than "global warming" because they feel it isn't as harsh and will be easier for the masses to believe in and be decieved. Personally, I dont' care if you say global warming or climate change when describing the current phenomena of global temperatures rising. I wouldn't sway one way or the other based on the use of either word over the other- to me, they are synonyms. In the media, I have only heard "global warming" and cannot recall hearing "climate change" used with emphasis. I think the author of this article is trying to give magnitude to a discrepancy that does not exist. The author feels that the term "gloabl warming" is too far-fetched, it represents a transmogrification- one that the audience won't buy...so the supporters of the global warming theory resort to using "climate change" instead to sound more convincing. Though as I have said, to me the two terms are interchangeable in this context...so maybe the author is the one swindling opinions to his anti-global warming side. Perception can be a tricky thing sometimes.
